Biography.
By royal decree, Giuseppe Gallone di Nociglia — Count of Nociglia and Prince of Tricase, of Moliterno and of Marsiconovo — is appointed Senator of the Kingdom of Italy at the start of the 8th legislature (1861–62). The verification of titles, the admission and the taking of the oath occur in the same session (p. 479 of the Proceedings).
In the 9th legislature (1863–64 session), Giuseppe Gallone intervenes in several key debates of united Italy: the transfer of the Capital to Florence (p. 1991 ff., p. 2012); the Commission of the Civil Code, with observations on the advisability of replacing certain members (p. 1858); the government loans to municipalities, with an interpellation on government loans to local authorities (pp. 2371–2381).
A descendant of the House of Gallone, princely since 1651 (Stefano II Gallone) and become also princely of Moliterno and of Marsiconovo through the marriage of his great-great-grandfather Giuseppe Gerardo Gallone (6th Prince of Tricase, 1766–1806) with Maria Emanuela Pignatelli, Giuseppe Gallone brings to the new Italian Senate the voice of an ancient House of the South.
He succeeds in the three Principalities his father Giovanni Battista Gallone (1800–1868), 7th Prince of Tricase, only male son of Giuseppe Gerardo and Maria Emanuela.
